Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re thinking about starting counselling, it’s completely normal to have questions. This page answers common counselling FAQs, including how to book appointments, fees, confidentiality, and how counselling works.
You’ll also find links to helpful blog posts with more detailed information about what to expect from counselling and how therapy can support stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and emotional wellbeing.
At Wellbeing Talk Therapy, I understand that reaching out for support can feel daunting, especially when life already feels overwhelming. My aim is to help you feel comfortable enough to talk openly, without pressure or judgement.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch.
How do I book a counselling appointment?
First, we’ll arrange a free 10–15 minute introductory call. This gives us a chance to briefly talk about what’s bringing you to counselling, for you to ask any initial questions, and for me to understand how best I may be able to support you.
It also gives you a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me before deciding to begin counselling.
To arrange this, please use the “Book Free Intro Call” button on this page.
At the end of the call, if you decide to continue, we can arrange your first counselling session together.
If you’ve already had and introductory call with me, you can use the Contact page to arrange ongoing sessions.
What is your availability? Do you offer evening appointments?
I offer online counselling and telephone sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the day, with a limited number of evening appointments available.
Please feel free to get in touch to discuss current availability.
What will it cost?
Sessions are £45, payable in advance by bank transfer.
How do online and telephone counselling sessions work?
Sessions can take place either online or by telephone, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.
For telephone sessions, I will call you at the agreed time.
For online counselling, I use Google Meet. I will send you a secure link before your session, and you simply click to join.
What if I don’t know where to start or what to say?
This is a very common concern, especially when starting counselling, and you’re not alone in feeling this way.
Most people find that once the session begins, it becomes easier than expected to talk things through. You’re welcome to start wherever feels most natural for you, there’s no “right” way to begin.
If you’re unsure, that’s absolutely fine. I’ll gently support the conversation and may ask questions to help us explore things at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
This is also one of the reasons I offer a free introductory call. It gives you a chance to get a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable speaking with me before deciding to start counselling.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of counselling sessions varies depending on what you’d like support with.
This may depend on:
- What you’d like to work on
- Whether you have clear goals or are still figuring this out
- Whether the issue is recent or has been ongoing for a while
There’s no pressure to decide this at the beginning. Counselling is a flexible process that we can regularly review together, and you’re free to choose whether shorter-term or longer-term feels right for you as we go.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. What you share in counselling is confidential and stays between us. There are a few legal and ethical exceptions to this, which will be covered in our first session so you’ll know exactly where you stand.
